Abstract

This article examines the rate of oxygen consumption in relation to maximum running speed over the entire distance in elite athletes achieving world record results. The aim of the study was to describe the rate of oxygen consumption in relation to maximum running speed in elite athletes using a model of the "ideal" or "proper" cardiorespiratory system. Results: The mechanism for improving the efficiency of the cardiorespiratory system in relation to the rate of oxygen consumption and maximum running speed in elite athletes is discussed. Conclusions: The presented model helped to obtain rate of oxygen consumption in relation to maximum running speed in elite athletes.

Key words: athlete’s heart, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, glycolytic system.
